Winthrop University project: Nicaragua
In alliance with RJI, Winthrop University recently ended another Project in Nicaragua. For one week, the group was hosted in two different communities in Nicaragua; Rocha and Tierra Blanca, both located in the department of Matagalpa.
The first objective of the group was to visit the elementary school (previously built by Winthrop University)in Rocha, to check the building status, to paint inside and identify other needs from the school and students. Plus to this, the volunteers gave some donations for the teachers and school supplies (paper, pens, pencils and color pencils)
Elementary school of Tierra Blanca was also painted
The second objective at these communities was to run a medical campaign with support from the local hospitals. Nutrition workshops, blood pressure, heart rate, weight measure and tetanus vaccine was provided for all people who attended. Also vitamins, fungal creams and other medication were available for the people who needed it.
The community kids also received English classes, strengthening the student’s basic of English. They reviewed topics that have been previously treated with the children’s, trying to incorporate some new elements.
